Identity and Access Management (IAM)

Identity and Access Management (IAM)

Identity management and access management are two terms widely used in IT security and IT data management. Commonly known as Identity and Access Management (IAM), both terms are often misused and can create confusion.

What is the difference between identity management and access management? Two essential concepts are necessary to differentiate them: authentication and authorisation.

Identity management (IdM) and authentication:
IdM’s role is authenticating users and assigning attributes that make up their identities in a company’s directory. Digital identities contain information that may grant or refuse access to a given resource.

Access management and authorization:
Access management allows the authentication of identities, which is the actual grant or denial of permission for users to access a given resource within a corporation.

So – Even though a user’s identity may be authenticated to appear in the corporate directory, that does not mean that it is authorised to access every resource enterprise-wide.

evolutionID combines these two essential concepts with its flagship product IDfunction in order to set up companies efficiently and securely in modern day-to-day business. Dive deeper with our product videos and contact us for more information.
